LEGAL PROTECTION OF THE UNBORN

Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children – January 14- 22

The “Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children” is Friday the 22nd.  In preparation, you are asked to join in prayer from January 14-22.  Please pray the “Novena to St. Joseph to end abortion” (see below).  We are united in solidarity with Catholics around our country, as we do each year, to pray and keep our Faith, as Catholics, in God as the Lord and Giver/Author of Life.  And, as Americans, we live in the understanding that we are “one nation under God with liberty and justice for all” born and the unborn.

On Friday the 22nd, you are asked to fast and pray for the protection of unborn children.  We will have Mass at 7:30 am and a Holy Hour with Benediction from noon to 1pm.  I ask that you make a morning offering, in which you offer your work that day for the intention for the day.  I also ask that you consider praying the “Divine Mercy Chaplet” at some time in the day.

In preparation, I ask that you read the “Message from the Bishops of New Jersey” (see below the novena).

NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH TO END ABORTION
(January 14-22, 2021)

St. Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church and Guardian of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus, the Son of God whom she carried in her Immaculate womb: intercede for us, we pray, that all recourse to abortion might cease in our nation and our world.  As your cared for Mother and Child, care for all women who bear the gift of life in their womb.  May no harm ever endanger them and may no choice ever threaten the blessing of human life that God has created within. Guard them with your loving protection, at every moment, until His will has been fulfilled.  St. Joseph, spouse of Mary and foster father of the Lord, help us build a culture of life that yields a civilization of love among us.

Say the “Our Father,” the “Hail Mary” and the “Glory be” after the novena prayer.

“Message from the Bishops of New Jersey”
A Call for Prayer & Fasting to End Abortion - January 22, 2021

We, the Catholic Bishops of New Jersey, ask Catholics and people of good will to join us on Friday January 22, 2021, the 48th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, in a Day of Prayer and Fasting to end abortion. As we mark this tragic event in our nation’s history, we remember the millions of lives lost to abortion and pray for the mothers and fathers left to suffer the tragic effects. The Catholic Church is committed to protecting all life from conception to natural death. We will work vigorously to ensure the laws of our state and country protect and defend the intrinsic dignity of all people. We humbly implore our Blessed Mother under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas and Protectress of the Unborn, to intercede on our behalf that these efforts to end abortion are guided by mercy, compassion, and above all charity.
